The Red Devils of Belguim made a dramatic comeback from two goals down to conquer Japan 3 – 2 to advance into the quarterfinals of the 2018 FIFA World cup in Russia.
Japan had gone up with two quick goals in the first 7 minutes of the second have which left the whole of the thousands of Belgian fans in the stadium bewildered. Genki Haraguchi drew the first blood with him the goal in the 48th minute off an assist by Gaku Shibasaki!
Four minutes later, it was time for Takashi Inui to get on the score shit as he fired a cracker from 25 yards to beat an outstretched Belgian goalkeeper Courtois into the left side of the goal.Belgium despite being two goals down however, didn’t show any sign of disturbance as the maintained concentration and got on with the game, as they pressed forward for an equalizer. Jan Vertonghen was the first to pull one back in the 69th minute as he steered an unusual header from the right side across to the left side of the net!
Belgium henceforth dominated possession in the game as they came after the Japanese from all sides of the pitch. The equalizer finally came shortly after Marouane Fellaini scored with a header after Eden Hazard curled in a superb cross from the left side, beating the Japanese goalkeeper.The Belgians were surely destined to win the match in regulation time and the chance for the 3rd goal came with just 40 seconds remaining in the match. Courtois had dealt with a corner kick by the Japanese and initiated a swift counter attack through Kelvin Debrune. The Manchester City player then released the ball to Thomas Meunier for the cross connected for an easy finish by Nacer Chadli.
With this result, Belgium will now play Brazil in the quarterfinals after the Samba boys edged out Mexico with a 2 – 0 victory.
